If one* must extract general principles from specific cases - which i don’t recommend in most cases - those general principles must still be applied in specific ways when faced with reality (which is specificity incarnate). The benefits of an increase in the mobility of concepts must always be weighed against the risks of the processes of flattening of difference, reductionism, possible essentialism and unequal deployments of power limit-inherent in the process of generalization.
